International Women’s Day 2023: 4 Woman-Owned Canadian Cannabis Brands

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s important to recognize the strides women are making in various industries, including the cannabis industry. Since the legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada in 2018, we’ve seen a number of women-owned cannabis companies in the country but the amount is tiny when we look at the larger scale. For example, did you know that there are less than 10 women-owned cannabis brands in the recreational market in Canada? That’s a drop in the ocean of cannabis brands that exist in Canada.

This International Women’s Day, we collaborated with 3 other women-owned recreational cannabis brands in Canada to help bring women-owned brands to the forefront. Women in the cannabis industry are breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and building successful businesses. We want to highlight these women and amplify their voices in this busy market.

Here are 4 women-owned cannabis companies in Canada to highlight this Women’s Day:

White Rabbit OG

White Rabbit OG is a whole fruit puree, fast acting, vegan edible from BC, made using only plant-based, Non-GMO, allergen free, gluten free, preservative free ingredients.  Kyrsten Dewinetz, Co-Founder and CEO, creates artisanal, amazing tasting edibles such as Sour Peach, Blueberry, Raspberry White Chocolate 1:1, Blackberry Lemonade 1:2, Blackberry De-vine 1:4, and Matcha Banana Smoothie 1:2 (CBG – available May 2023).

MADGE AND MERCER MODERN APOTHECARY

Madge and Mercer is a wellness brand designed for women by women, featuring high CBD, a micro-dose of THC and complementary multi-functional plant and seed-based oils. It is designed for living well and seamlessly integrates into a woman’s wellness regimen and self-care toolkit. The scent and taste of  cannabis is masked within all products with terpenes or natural extracts – whether vapes, ingestible oils or the celebrated facial serum. The brand is run by Founder and CEO Shauna Levy.

Sense & Purpose

Sense & Purpose is a phenomenal tasting and fast acting line of cannabis infused beverages made from 100% natural juice ingredients. Naturally sweetened with organic blue agave syrup and no artificial flavours or colours, it offers options to recover, refocus, recharge or relax. Created by its Founder, Karen Young, who has also embedded her Social Impact Program (SIP) into the fabric of the company.

Zyre Brands

Zyre is BC’s #1 selling full-spectrum vapes. CEO & Founder Audrey Wong, couldn’t find anything in the market that was both full-spectrum and tasted great so she decided to make her own, resulting in Zyre’s ultra-smooth, all-ceramic, flavoured cured resin vapes. Launch, Recline and Spotlight are each customized to enhance your different vibes.

These women and companies are breaking down barriers, challenging stereotypes, and making a significant impact in the cannabis industry.

In addition to running successful businesses, women in the cannabis industry also play a significant role in advocating for education and offering appealing lifestyle brands to combat the stigma surrounding cannabis use.

However, it is worth noting that the cannabis industry still has a long way to go in terms of gender equality. Women are still underrepresented in leadership positions, and they face unique challenges, such as obtaining financing and dealing with stigma and stereotypes.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s essential to recognize the contributions that women are making in the cannabis industry, such as the women and brands mentioned above, and to continue to support women-owned businesses. By doing so, we can create a more inclusive and equitable industry that benefits everyone.

So this Women’s Day, look out for these tags on products in your local retail stores in BC and ON. Spread the word about these brands and more women-owned businesses that you know of. Tag them in your social media posts, spread the word and help us amplify our voices in the Canadian Cannabis industry.
